Leh-ailed

Hi,

sorry for being so late in posting but was away from blogging since my trip to Leh last and year and will now post before my next trip to Leh this year ... Here is the itenary I had last year.

Day 1: Delhi - Manali
Full tank filled : 15.56 lt

started at 4:00 am from Delhi
reached Manali at 4:30 pm
Full tank filled : 18 lt
601 kms in 11 hrs on road + 1.5 hrs of break
avg speed: 54.63

Had some noise from the front tyre. Had to go back 15 kms from Manali
to get it checked. Nothing major just noise due to dust on disc brake
pads. Was very exhausted as had just slept for 2 hrs before leaving.

Day 2: Manali - Sarchu
Full tank filled : 4.6 lt

started at 6:10 am from Manali
reached Sarchu at 5:00 pm
245 kms in 9 hrs on road + 2 hrs of break
avg speed: 27.22

It was cloudy in the morning but it cleared out as I started to climb
Rohtang. No electricity at Tandi and generator was not working. I
thought I will be stuck here now but the gen was repaired. Didnt carry
any extra fuel as pulsar gave a good range. Met a german group on a
bus on the way and another austrian making his way to Leh on a
bicycle. Had the AMS hit me at Sarchu. Very cold in the night...
couldnt sleep properly. Drank lots of water in the night. Tent at
Sarchu for Rs. 300

Day 3: Sarchu - Leh
started at 7:05 am from Sarchu

reached Leh at 3:30 pm
272 kms in 8 hrs on road + 0.5 hrs of break
avg speed: 34

Was fine in the morning. Did the Gatta loops easily and then met the
german group again at LachungLa. Reached Leh and found a decent guest
house for Rs 100 a day without food. Got a fuel average of 40 from
Manali to Leh ... !!!!

Day 4: Leh (permits)
Full tank filled : 10.67 lt

Met the german group again in Leh.

Day 5: Leh - Khardungla - Leh
started at 7:10 am reached Ktop at 8:30 am

started back at 12:15 pm and reached back at 1:15 pm
84 kms in 2.33 hrs
avg speed: 36

Met many bikers at KTop.

Day 6: Leh - PangonTso - Leh
Full tank filled : 3.19 lt

started at 7:10 am and reached at 11:10 am
started back at 12:45 pm and reached at 4:45 pm
Full tank filled : 7.87 lt
326 kms in 8hrs
avg speed: 41

ChangLa was most difficult to climb. It was cold and steep. The road
to Pangong is very sharp bends where you tend to go fast so had to be
very careful.

Day 7: Leh - Drass
started at 7:25 am

reached at 3:10 pm
304 kms in 7.5 hrs on road with 20 mins break
avg speed: 40

Change of plans to return from Jammu side. The moring had clouds so
went fast to leave them behind but they followed me till Drass but
didnt rain on the way. It was cold at Drass.

Day 8: Drass - Jammu

Full tank filled : 10.85 lt
started at 5:45 am
reacehed at 7:50 pm
480 kms in 12 hrs on road with 2 hrs break
avg speed: 40

The clouds didnt leave me. Had to drive in the rain. It was tough
crossing Zojila pass due to rain as the road was very slushy and the
disc didnt work due to rain so had to use engine braking with the rea
brakes. Was halted for 2 hrs at Srinagar due to some firing(some
terrorists had broke in to a house or something). After that it was
rain driving till Jammu. This was my most difficult day as I was
advised not to reach Jammu by evening as it was not safe on the way
but I had to do it because I didnt want to stay in the mountains and
ride again in the rain next morning.

Day 9: Jammu - Delhi
Full tank filled : 14.78 lt

started at 6:25 am
reacehd at 2:45 pm
627 kms in 8 hrs on road with 20 mins break
avg speed: 78.32

This was a cool ride with a good average speed. This route is good but
its long, with too many blinds and not as good looking as the Manali
route.

overall Fuel average: 36 kmpl

overall distance covered : 3100 kms
fuel cost : Rs 3790

overall staying cost : 250(Manali) + 300(Sarchu) +400(Leh)+100(Drass)
+150(Jammu) = Rs 1200
